Role and Responsibilities

The Survey Manager, RPLS is responsible for managing in house, and occasional third-party survey operations within the Operations Department. The employee will be responsible for ensuring all survey work is conducted with quality, and to appropriate industry standards. This will include checking data and deliverables for quality, preparing certified deliverables for clients. The Survey Manager, RPLS will be responsible for developing and conducting survey training for field staff and be available for troubleshooting or support to field staff as needed. Additionally, the employee will be required to maintain the survey vessels and all survey equipment inventory in good working order.

The employee must have good character, possess strong organizational skills, be task oriented, have good attention to detail, with strong verbal and written communication skills. The employee must possess strong management and leadership skills and must have the ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines and strives for continuous improvement in a fast-paced, evolving, and dynamic environment. The employee must represent the Company intelligently and professionally

This position is permanently based out of Galveston, Texas and works a typical Monday through Friday business day. The employee will be required to travel to various jobsites as work demands. The employee may be required to travel on some weekends or evenings

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Engineering and Production.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Modify/develop/conduct survey training for field staff
  • Develop and enforce QA/QC procedures for pre-construction, post construction and daily hydrographic and topographic surveys
  • Setup, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment, as needed, with field staff
  • Track and deploy survey vessels
  • Coordinate the maintenance and safe keeping of survey vessels in conjunction with Callan Maintenance Department
  • Prepare/Check certified deliverables
  • Perform data and deliverable quality checks
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The employee must have:

  • Hold and maintain a current Texas RPLS license
  • Registration in Louisiana preferred but not required
  • Willingness to acquire additional licenses
  • Experience in field work
  • Expert in hydrographic and topographic surveying equipment and processes
  • Expert in working with published coordinate systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, HYPACK, Trimble Business Center and MS Office Suite software
  • Thorough understanding of dredging a plus
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel and work some evenings/weekends
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, a Field Engineer must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
