This position exists to support research projects in the Office of Materials and Road Research and other locations throughout Minnesota, particularly a Density Profiling System (DPS) robotics needs. Current investments in the use of automated systems to accomplish DPS data collection needs requires personnel with robotics capabilities. The main activities include researching the capabilities of the currently owned equipment and related sensors, developing the system for collecting field data in pavement structure evaluation and performance characterizing, particularly in the area of non-destructive testing using various testing methods. The position will research and develop protocols for the use of remote controlled, and autonomous DPS data collection.

This position provides liaison and technical expertise in robotics and DPS data collection. The position requires a programming background that allows applicants to be able to process large quantities of data and modify applications that can be used for analysis and reporting of results is also required. This position provides support for pavement evaluation using non-destructive testing methods, particularly Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). The position should also be able to assist with programming data analysis solutions and interpreting DPS results. The computer programming capabilities of the position may also be utilized for other non-robotic related tasks such as streamlining data handling, reading in and analyzing raw exported DPS data, and other tasks assisting deployment efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

•Enrollment in an undergraduate degree program within the last 3 months in Engineering; Computer Science, Physics or Applied Mathematics;

•Experience with ROS

•Experience with Python programming.

•Knowledge data processing and analysis techniques.

This position requires a valid Class D (MN) driver's license.
