The Public Works Engineering Division is recruiting for an Appointive position of Associate Engineer within the Engineering Street Design section.
Public Works is seeking a collaborative team member with knowledge of street design and general engineering concepts and applications to perform a variety of duties to preserve and/or improve the City's transportation system. In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the candidate must apply sound engineering and project management practices and have the ability to express and discuss ideas through effective oral and written communications to a wide variety of audiences. The Associate Engineer will work collaboratively with diverse groups to develop design solutions that are effective and supportive of City policies and practices.
Additionally, this position will spend approximately 20 hours per week assisting the City's American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator. Duties will include:
The Associate Engineer will be required to be proficient in all functions of the Street Design engineering group and will occasionally be required to support functions outside of their core duties; such as traffic control plans, storm drainage design, water quality design channelization, roadside safety, signage and curb ramp design. The position will be expected to be conversant in using databases, Word and Excel, GIS, and CAD.

Four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university in civil or environmental engineering.
A four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering is preferred for the work associated with this position.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Engineer in Training Certificate for advancement to pay step four or higher.
Step 4 * Annual Salary Range - 87,630 - 90,958
Some positions may require a valid Washington Driver's License at the time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge & Skills
Develop methods of data collection and results interpretation. As necessary, implement results of research studies or programs with an appropriate and effective course of action based upon outcome or findings.
Ability to communicate clearly and prepare effective oral and written communications for professional and general public use.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, city, county, state and federal agencies while coordinating research in support of assigned department programs.
Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
Remain current on applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures within engineering field assigned.
Operate a personal computer and be self-reliant with operating system software to include peripheral office support equipment in order to accomplish assigned tasks. Database, CAD, and GIS experience desirable, but not required.
