Department Overview

Work as part of team that includes Cancer and Blood Disorder physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing, social work, physical therapy, nutrition, child life, clinic assistants and researchers.

The department at Children's of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Pediatric Hematologist with dedicated focus in HTC. We have 6 hematologists, 3 hematology nurse practitioners and 7 hematology nurse case managers. Our Hematology Program is the largest in the state with an average of 900 new consults per year. We have a nationally recognized hemoglobinopathy program specializing in both sickle cell disease and thalassemia. We are the site of the largest pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) in Minnesota. Within the HTC, we have a combined hematology/gynecology clinic and a comprehensive stroke clinic.

License/Certification/Registration required? Yes
* Board BE/BC in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.
* Completion of an ACGME Accredited Fellowship program, per sub specialty requirements.
* Board BE/BC in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, if applicable. Ability to be successfully credentialed by both Hospital and 3rd Party Payers.

Required Education:
* Must have an M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree from another country with a current Minnesota Medical License or the ability to obtain one.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Clinical competency and expertise in caring for hospitalized children.
* Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
* Knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications.
* In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Respect for patient's confidentiality.
* Compassionate and approachable.
* Responsible and trustworthy.
