New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Construction Coordinator Technician II to coordinate and oversee the installation of company natural gas facilities to ensure their compliance with state and federal regulations and company standards. Evaluate contractor daily performance and quality of work, and maintain records related to their compliance. Maintain superior customer satisfaction related to the construction processes with heavy interaction with contractor personnel and customers. Work with company engineers and contractors to resolve construction related problems. Coordinate company construction activity in a timely, cost effective, and safe manner. Become totally familiar with and ensure proper construction of facilities in compliance with company construction standards and procedures. Assist in the preparation and completion of Distribution system new business and operations construction work. Night work and overtime sometimes required. This role could develop into a Tuesday through Saturday schedule in the future if needed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate contractor’s daily performance and quality of work fairly and objectively.
  • Maintain records related to contractor work quality and performance.
  • Work with contractors to resolve construction problems in the field.
  • Ensure the accurate and correct completion of company construction records.
  • Coordinate new business construction work on a day-to-day basis between all affected parties in a timely, cost effective, and safe manner.
  • Arrange mutually agreeable installation time frames with customers/builders.
  • Effectively represent the company at builder preconstruction meetings.
  • Release new business work to contractors as required, verifying completion of paperwork and permits.
  • Prepare service work orders as required for new business services.
  • Become totally familiar with company construction standards, procedures, bid documents, and construction techniques.
  • Resolve first level billing disputes between the contractor and company.
  • Spot check field construction against contractor invoices for billing accuracy.
  • Investigate customer complaints regarding contractor work and respond accordingly.
  • Assist in conducting contractor and company fusion qualifications as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction work orders through conducting field inspections of proposed construction work sites.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate construction drawings.
  • Assist in the field coordination of company work on renewal and municipal reconstruction projects.

Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction technology, engineering or related field preferred
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in utility construction or related field, or the combination of field experience and college education.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • General knowledge of company construction standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards and UCIS
  • Flexible to work evenings and overtime with the possibility of moving to a Tuesday through Saturday work schedule in the future if necessary.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
