Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) has opportunities for you to join our team as a State of Minnesota employee. We seek applicants with a positive attitude and strong work ethic, who are ready to share our dedication to the people we serve.

AMRTC is an inpatient psychiatric hospital serving adults with mental illness in a large, campus-based setting. The population also includes individuals civilly committed for specialized care, such as competency for criminal court (Rule 20), emergency 48-hour bed holds, and co-occurring mental illness/chemical dependency. Located just 15 minutes north of the Twin Cities metro, this modern facility offers compassionate, person-centered care in a pleasant environment appreciated by patients and employees alike.

As a Safety Support Specialist at AMRTC, you will promote patient and staff safety by continuous monitoring and evaluation of the care environment on patient units and throughout the hospital, response to and de-escalation of challenging patient interactions, and delivery of training and skill development for employees. Essential tools of this role include critical thinking, behavioral intervention, and crisis negotiation. Our staff also take pride in contributing to patient recovery by ensuring all communication and interaction occurs with the utmost respect, integrity and confidentiality.

Job duties include:
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment using a person-centered approach that facilitates patient participation and independence while protecting patient rights and complying with all safety and health regulations.
  • Conduct rounds within the hospital to gather information through general observation, direct patient contact, and employee interactions in a structured and proactive manner.
  • Manage crisis situations using the least restrictive/intrusive methods, provide emergency interventions, and support patients as necessary during interventions.
  • Implement hospital safety and security policies, along with providing general patient supervision, to ensure the continued health and safety of patients, staff, and the public.
  • Contribute to the quality of overall facility operations and patient services through diligence in objectively documenting, accurately recording, and appropriately communicating information.
  • Maintain skills and physical requirements in order to respond to emergency situations.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated writing skills including writing legible notes.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Clear verbal communication skills for communications over radio and with patients.
  • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.
  • Must pass a physical fitness standards test of the following, all to be completed within 4 minutes 30 seconds total:
    • 400 meter run followed by;
    • 15 push-ups and;
    • 15 sit-ups
