Job Summary

Help play an important role in the brain health of Minnesotans by becoming the Aging and Healthy Communities Unit Supervisor as a Health Program Representative Principal. The Aging and Healthy Communities Unit is part of the Center for Health Promotion (CHP) in the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease (HPCD) Division of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

This position leads and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of Aging related activities, focused on addressing risk factors for Alzheimer's and related dementias (ADRD) and other chronic diseases, social determinants of health that disproportionally impact older adults, falls, and emergency preparedness with a focus on building internal and external program strategies that engage MDH, other state agencies, community-based organizations, advocates and the public to implement statewide strategies.

Responsibilities of the role may include, but are not limited to:
• Provide leadership and supervision for the work of the Aging and Healthy Communities Unit
• Manage unit to assure the achievement of health improvement goals and objectives.
• Write competitive grant applications and manage a portfolio of grant programs.
• Oversee epidemiological studies and programs to inform actions related to healthy aging.
• Provide prevention program and policy consultation in the aging arenas to other activities within and outside of the MDH.

Work may be conducted in-person in St. Paul, or as telework for applicants who reside in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, or South Dakota, based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of the closest Minnesota Department of Health office location. Occasional travel to the St. Paul office location will be required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Four years experience in a comprehensive public health program in the field of aging. Experience to include all of the following:
• Project management.
• Strategic planning and budgeting.
• Designing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion programs such as Alzheimer's and related dementias programs.

A degree in public health, public policy, social work, psychology, or related program may count towards professional experience as follows:
• Bachelor's = 12 months
• Master's = 18 months
• Doctoral = 24 months

Abilities, skills and knowledge to be assessed at interview:
• Knowledge of Alzheimer's and related dementias (ADRD), social determinants of health, and aging issues from a public health perspective.
• Public speaking and writing abilities sufficient to provide professional consultation.
• Interpersonal skills sufficient to manage conflict in a collaborative way reaching mutually acceptable positive solutions.
• Knowledge of and commitment to health equity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Alzheimer's and related dementias (ADRD), social determinants of health, and aging issues from a public health perspective.
• Experience leading strategic planning and visioning with broad range of stakeholders and program partners including local, state and national government agencies; health providers, public health officials and community health agencies; tribes, employers, and not-profit organizations.
• Experience participating in legislative processes.
• Experience leading community-based health promotion and education engagement.
• Experience implementing policies and procedures of a statewide Alzheimer's and related dementias program.
• Designing, implementing, and evaluating policy, systems and environmental change approaches as they relate to accomplishing objectives of MDH.
• Experience integrating operational health equity principles in strategy work.
• Experience collaborating with DHS and other state agencies regarding aging and Alzheimer's and related dementias.

Additional Requirements

• Must successfully pass a background check.
• This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
• The successful candidate under U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
