Required License/Registration/Certification
Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (
CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (
ABHES) accredited program of surgical technology, or Licensed Practical Nurse (
LPN) with at least 10 years in a Surgical Technician role, or certified as a surgical technologist or certified as a surgical technologist first assistant by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (
NBSTSA), or graduate of a military training program (validated with a DD214 or graduation certificate), or
UKHC employee who is already in a Surgical Technician role as of 09/17/2016
Physical Requirements
The essential functions for include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, the hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Hours of assignment may be during the days, evenings, or nights, on any day of the week; will also be required to work some weekend, holidays, and on-calls
Job Summary
* This is a per-diem position being offered as a LEVEL 3 contract only which requires working 216 hours per 6 weeks schedule (36 hours/week). Must be able to work at any perioperative site and proficiently scrub at least 4 services, excluding CT & Transplant. Must cover two “late” days per pay period. One Weekday and One Weekend call shift every schedule at the director’s discretion. Summer & Winter holiday requirement.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The primary responsibilities for these positions include: Pass surgical instruments in operating room. Maintain strict sterile field, assist/perform surgical case counts. Obtains necessary supplies/instruments for such cases and checks for completeness and working order. Opens room independently or in conjunction with the circulating nurse (depending on case complexity). Sets up and maintains sterile field until the patient exits the room. Maintains a neat and orderly sterile field during each case. Passes instruments to surgeons, anticipating needs. Monitors for breaks in sterile technique and takes corrective action when identified. Performs counts in accordance with policy.
