The Executive Director of Annual Giving is responsible for overseeing the Annual Giving Program for the entire University; formulating its short- and long-term plans, goals, and objectives; and integrating efforts to secure annual commitments from all constituencies across a multitude of solicitation vehicles. The Executive Director prioritizes efforts to create and implement proactive strategies to expand the donor base and increase annual support while building a sustainable culture of philanthropy for the University. This role must coordinate fundraising strategies with the frontline fundraising team and the stewardship team.

Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and monitoring the Annual Giving budget and providing the AVP for Development and the University Advancement leadership team with analysis of entire Annual Giving program to demonstrate ROI and the impact Annual Giving strategies have on the overall fundraising progress of the University.

The Executive Director of Annual Giving works with volunteer leaders including those on the Annual Giving Campaign Committee on fundraising priorities. The Executive Director must possess a commitment to higher education fundraising and Villanova’s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the strategic vision of the Annual Giving Program by planning and implementing a comprehensive Program designed to secure annual commitments from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends through 1842 Day (Villanova’s National Day of Giving), direct mail, email solicitations, digital engagement strategies, student phonathon calls, undergraduate philanthropy initiatives, the Senior Class Gift, Reunion Giving Program, and personal solicitation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with cross campus partners on fundraising initiatives such as 1842 Day and Giving Tuesday which are designed to engage many constituents across a multitude of platforms to raise funds for the University. Also provide guidance and opportunities to partner with Legends (an external partner to the Athletics fundraising team) to maximize philanthropic support.
  • Develop and implement solicitation strategies to increase donors in all annual giving societies including President’s Club, President’s Club Associates, Villanova Loyalty Society and Villanova Caritas Society.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and collaborate with Senior Director, Annual Giving; Director, Digital Fundraising; and the Director, Leadership Annual Giving to ensure the success of programs, initiatives as well as the ongoing development of all team members.
  • Manage the Annual Giving Campaign volunteer committee. In collaboration with the Alumni Relations team, provide strategic direction to the Young Alumni Council and in partnership with the Sr. Director, Annual Giving provide guidance to the Young Alumni Campaign Committee.
  • Oversee the Annual Giving budget and allocate resources to ensure all goals can be achieved while staying within the budget annually. Additionally, provide an annual budget proposal to request ongoing fund support for new programs and initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of fundraising experience with demonstrated expertise in all facets of comprehensive Annual Giving Programs is required.
  • Knowledge of fundraising practices with particular emphasis on Annual Giving programs and raising unrestricted funds required. Knowledge of information systems management and staff and volunteer management required.
  • Well developed organizational skills and superior writing and communication skills along with creativity and demonstrated success in managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with diplomacy, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain utmost confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs and database management.
  • Ability to participate in special events including evening and weekend functions.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the culture of a complex, faith-based, institution of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and/or professional certification highly desired.
  • Highereducation or nonprofit experience preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Ability and willingness to travel and attend weekend and evening functions.
