The Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Roger Williams University invites applications for a one-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor (with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years), to begin Fall 2024. A recipient of the 2015-2016 CCCC Writing Program Certificate of Excellence, our freestanding, collegial department includes six tenured faculty. We deliver a two-semester general education writing program and a minor in Professional and Public Writing. Outside the department, faculty have partnered with general education, the University Honors Program, Sustainability Studies, Public Humanities and the Arts, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and other programs across the campus. We are particularly interested in colleagues committed to teaching in the Writing Program, participating in ongoing collaborations to develop culturally responsive pedagogies, and supporting and advancing our offerings in professional and public writing.

All candidates should show the potential for excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and service to the institution and community. The position includes teaching courses in the Writing Program (especially first-year writing) and expanding/enhancing course offerings in our Professional and Public Writing minor. The teaching load is 4/3.

Job Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. with specialization in rhetoric and composition or professional and technical communication by the time of appointment.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
