We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our Prototyping Division at our Hampton, Virginia headquarters. The Mechanical Engineer will be instrumental in designing and developing mechanical components and systems for our prototyping projects. This role requires robust mechanical design skills, proficiency in CAD software, and a creative, problem-solving mindset to drive innovations from concept through to fabrication and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design and Development: Create detailed designs of mechanical components and systems using CAD software. Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, and functionality.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Fabricate prototypes using a variety of techniques and materials. Conduct performance tests, analyze results, and make necessary adjustments to mechanical designs.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with electrical engineers and other project team members to ensure mechanical designs integrate seamlessly with electrical systems and other project requirements.
  • Materials Selection: Select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for prototype components, considering factors such as strength, flexibility, cost, and time constraints.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all design files, test results, and project progress reports to ensure accuracy and facilitate future referencing.
  • Project Management: Assist in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in mechanical engineering. Recommend and implement improvements in design and development processes to enhance efficiency and product quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience and portfolio of successfully completed projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, particularly in a prototyping or manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Knowledge of modern fabrication techniques, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and molding.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
