The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant-leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART). The RTE's major responsibilities are to facilitate the flow of value through the ART, including proactively facilitating delivery and the major events + processes. RTEs communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive continuous improvement within the ART. In addition to promoting execution visibility, the RTE is a change agent who pushes for process improvements and challenges existing behaviors; they support the Agile teams in being both self-organizing and self-managing. The RTE frequently influences and contributes their Agile expertise and hands-on involvement in delivery to other parts of the organization.

The Release Train Engineer has four key responsibilities:

1. Facilitate the flow of value through the ART via releases, Agile/SAFe processes, and execution

2. Escalate and remove impediments and roadblocks the ART encounters

3. Help drive continuous improvement within the ART

4. Coach the ART and people interacting with the ART
