Ascent Resources is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel. This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK and will report to the Assistant General Counsel.
Corporate Counsel advises on all corporate legal issues, but the primary areas of responsibility will be providing legal counsel on litigation matters, lessor and landowner issues, ROW issues, Ohio title issues and oil & gas lease negotiations. Experience with upstream oil & gas company matters in these areas is required. Other oil & gas legal experience is worthy of special consideration. A candidate with exceptional skills and experience in these areas will be considered for a Senior Corporate Counsel role.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide analysis and legal counsel on litigation involving Ascent and issues impacting the energy industry
  • Manage and oversee litigation docket with Outside Counsel
  • Review and interprets laws, statutes and court rulings to ensure compliance and potential impact on the organization
  • Ensure compliance with laws and agreements thereby limiting exposure to liability
  • Provide sound recommendations and guidance to meet the legal needs of the organization
  • Handle administrative duties and projects, including confidential and sensitive internal matters as well as ensure the company’s compliance
  • Legal point of contact for litigation and pre-litigation demands
  • Legal point of contact for internal inquiries from Land Department
  • Advise officers and other senior managers on risk associated with various claims to assess settlement priority
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Minimum Requirements:
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Analytical skills and strong interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to communicate and direct activities of Outside Counsel
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of gas processing agreements, transportation agreements, firm transportation agreements and asset management agreements
Education & Work Experience Required
Minimum Requirements:
  • 5-10 plus years of experience in an oil and gas Legal department
  • Juris Doctorate required
  • Member in Good Standing of the Oklahoma Bar or other State Bar
  • Previous experience in a Corporate Attorney role for an exploration & production company
Preferred:
  • Previous experience in a Corporate Counsel role for an upstream oil and gas company that is an active operator and producer
