POSITION LOCATION: Silver Spring, MD, USA

ANTICIPATED START DATE: June 15, 2024 or within 2 weeks of offer

TRAVEL: Domestic travel may be required

IHRC, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a part-time employee of IHRC, Inc., and will be assigned to the federal clients who perform industrial hygiene, laboratory safety and health, and logistical operations.


This position will support multiple clients, including the FDA Office of Laboratory Safety, located at 10903 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20993.


SCOPE OF WORK

The Certified Industrial Hygienist will provide the following services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with IHRC SMEs and federal partners, develop new, or update existing, workplace safety-related manuals, training curricula, and programs.
  • Support the development of Agency-wide safety-related newsletters and articles covering a range of industrial hygiene topics.
  • Perform assessments at FDA laboratories and facilities of industrial hygiene program gaps, exposure assessment and job hazard analysis needs, exposure control deficiencies, and other opportunities for FDA Office of Laboratory Safety to improve the practice of industrial hygiene and laboratory safety in the field.
  • Perform hands-on analysis and evaluate health hazards and potential health hazards and provide recommendations to close the gaps and findings.
  • Work with high level of independence from senior management.

Requirements


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific or engineering discipline from an accredited academic institution required. College level coursework in industrial hygiene, medical technology, physical engineering, or microbiology is highly desired.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) required. Extensive experience in laboratory environments is essential. Biosafety professional credential and experience is highly desired.

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of prior experience as a certified industrial hygienist in a similar capacity.
  • Experience performing assessments at laboratories and facilities of industrial hygiene program gaps, exposure assessment and job hazard analysis needs, exposure control deficiencies, laboratory biosafety and security, and related activities to improve the practice of industrial hygiene and laboratory safety in the field.
  • Experience working with high level of independence from senior management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills along with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Energetic team presence with an eagerness to learn and collaborate with other members of the team.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
