Business Overview

MacDermid Graphics Solutions is a supplier of consumable materials used to transfer images on to consumer packaging materials, our products are used to improve print quality and printing productivity. We produce and market photopolymers through an extensive line of flexographic plates that are used in the consumer packaging and printing industries. Photopolymers are molecules that change properties upon exposure to light.

Job Purpose

The Quality Lab Technician is responsible for supporting new product development projects for liquid and sheet photopolymers, including manufacturing testing & support and application development efforts. This will involve carrying out specified experimental tasks including lab and pilot scale formulation and extrusion, material characterization, and imaging studies.

Job Responsibilities

• Collects and records data, including basic calculations of standard practices.

• Performs Calibrations of specified lab equipment

• Assist in the development of new test methods and practices when needed

• Collects data in a timely manner within established deadlines

• Assist in running statistics of product data

• Inspects and test Customer returns

• Supports and provides technical support to problem solving, & corrective action champions

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education typically includes an A.S. or B.S. in chemistry or equivalent education (1-2 yrs of technical college with a chemistry orientation) and/or -3 years practical experience
  • Must have hands-on laboratory experience, on-the-job training, or equivalent background
  • Knows routine, standardized lab functions
  • Performs testing and analysis as directed
  • Solid expertise with the various analytical equipment pertinent to work area
  • Requires the ability to analyze chemical solutions and/or processes
  • Interaction with customers on the phone or in person
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are important
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (excel & word) and Lotus Notes.

  • Internal Auditing preferred (ISO 9001, 14001)
  • Strong verbal and written communications
  • Able to review upper and lower control limits/data and notify personnel when out of specified ranges.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
