The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is looking to hire a Program Technician 2 / Embryo Culture Technician to provide technical support for the Andrology/Endocrinology Laboratory and trains in/provides embryology technical support for clinical IVF program by performing a variety of specialized testing and examination procedures.

Duties to include:

In Vitro Fertilization Lab Technical Procedures: Train in and perform embryology lab procedures including but not limited to: daily QC, dish preparation, oocyte retrieval, stripping of oocytes, embryo vitrification/warming, embryo thawing and embryo culture procedures, embryo transfers. Supervised training for micromanipulation procedures. Prepares testicular biopsy samples for freeze. Thaws testicular biopsy samples for use in an IVF cycle.

Andrology/Endocrine Lab Technical Procedures: Cryopreserves, stores, and prepares shipped donor/partner specimens. Prepares sperm for intrauterine insemination. Determines sperm count and performs microscopic examination and quantification of donor/patient sperm including motility and morphology. Performs assays for various blood serum analysis. Performs associated record keeping and transmits results. Donor program management support – assists in facilitating directed sperm donor appointments.

Miscellaneous: Perform other administrative duties, as assigned or instructed, to ensure regulatory compliance and efficient laboratory operations. Specific examples may include: maintenance of regulatory documents, inventory management, general andrology and embryology lab support, and lab data entry.

This position will be expected to participate in the weekend coverage schedule.


  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration OR a filed directly related to the position (in Biology, Chemistry, or Microbiology) will substitute for two years of the required experience AND Five years of experience with responsibility for program or project monitoring and coordination. The experience must have included program evaluation responsibility. Of the five years of experience, at least three years as an OHSU Andrology Tech, or equivalent experience/education.
  • Ability to perform microscopic examinations.
  • Knowledge of clinical lab terminology, lab safety, and sterile technique.
  • Must have working knowledge with the use of microscopes, incubators, and other lab equipment.
  • Excellent patient customer service and teamwork.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Attention to detail.
